Abstract:
This layer shows the salt marsh areas where the dominant types are the Tall Fescue and Searush in the Avon-Heathcote Estuary. This was identified through aerial imagery analysis. For an overall view of rushland distribution, refer to the layer rushland.shp. Data was analysed using a 2000 aerial photograph of the estuary. All are part of the 2002 study by the Cawthron Institute: Estuarine Environmental Assessment and Monitoring: A National Protocol. |

Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. Vegetation cover data from the Cawthron Institute were created as part of a larger dataset for their 2000-2002 study: Estuarine Environmental Assessment and Monitoring: A National Protocol (released 2002).
Broadscale Mapping Methods are described in general for all estuaries but no specific details are given for the Avon-Heathcote estuary on the scale, resolution, groundtruthing etc applied.
