Description:

Abstract:

This dataset shows the GPS locations of main seagrass clusters recorded by walking around the estuary in summer 2004/2005.  These Point locations were recorded with a Garmin GPS unit for studies on assessing sea grass growth by the Biological Sciences Department at the University of Canterbury. Purpose:

Data collected  for studies to assess sea grass growth for Associate Professor Islay Marsden in the Biological Sciences Department at the University of Canterbury

Supplemental information:

Three lone points towards the western edge are questionable and could be markers rather than seagrass. Only points within the estuary have been retained in this subset.

All data were transferred out of the Garmin machine in Mapsource, and the coordinates reprojected in ArcMap to come up with the shapefiles. Each years data was extracted into its own file, and the survey markers also extracted into a markers file. Currently only 2004 data is displayed on the portal. 2007 data will be cleared by A/Prof Marsden later for use on the portal.
